Being new to California gardening, my humans have a lot to learn about what can go into the ground and when it suppose to go into the ground. They like hollyhocks, so they sowed some seeds last April/May. Ha! Humans here know you plant them in late January or early February. Then the two legged ones told my humans that if the hollyhocks came up they would not bloom until the second year. Ha, again! Here is proof that newbies can have a little luck in the garden. One spiked and is blooming. Why blooming in January, four months late, they don't know.

Winter Hollyhock
They said it couldn't happen
After my typist read the following article, deseretnews.com | Hail to the hearty hollyhock, he learned more about the hollyhock, but there are still questions.
