This morning over a hundred swallows (Tree?) were flying over Watson Hollow. The insects were rising and the birds were breaking their fast. Then they took turns swooping down and grabbing a drink from the surface of the pond. You may be able to see them in the photos. We were unable to positively ID the critters. Will try again when we have our field glasses.

Some say our alpha male has a green thumb, but as you can see, it isn't green. What are 'they' talking about? He spent the morning edging the backyard and I did a little mowing grazing.
Here's the great gardener. 'Now what do I do?'
The sod here, Delta Bluegrass, is grown over a netting. (See below.)

We have yet to find out why. According to my human's limited vocabulary, it is a 'pain'.
On a Soles scale of five, about 1" by 1 3/4".
After reflection, the gardener decided that the netting was useful after all. It kept the sod from falling apart when it was removed. So, we guess that is the purpose of the grass net. Easier handling when cutting and laying.

New sod! Some dogs like to immediately mark it. I like to let it age first, then mark any sod on the edge of the yard with a good amount of pee. But I wait till after it's taken hold a bit, that way I just get a leer instead of people yelling at me.
Nice green grass in the picture. It must be warm enough for humans to wear sandals outside too! Not here in Frostbite Falls, no sir.
Couple more months of snow/rain/ice mix with scattered periods of melting. Not good for planting, unless you're talking planting yourself in the middle of the back yard to watch the squirrels as they start trying to find where some of the stash they all hid might be . . .
We moved here because the grass is green all year. Denver's grass turned brown in the winter, like that in Frostbite Falls, and it prickled my feet. I said, 'Let's find a place with no snow and soft green grass all year round.' So here we are.
When I pee on the lawn my humans must hose it down or it turns into Denver (and Frostbite Falls) winter grass, me being a SF (spade female) and all that. Do you get to see any brown grass up there during the winter or is it covered for the duration?
Sandal weather begins here around 1 March, give or take, but in a few months it can get so hot the asphalt street can burn my paws. So we go on earlier and later walks and, if I so desire to walk in the afternoon, I get to ride in the cart. Yea! We just check the pee mail at Watson Hollow and see if there are any birds there.
I do miss the squirrels I use to watch in Denver. Lots of killdeer and rabbits here. Guess the rabbits don't hide anything, but they sure leave some neat stuff to sniff.
How could I be so remiss. Of course rabbits hide things, Easter treats and Easter just two weeks away. How could I forget. Looking forward to the hunt.
Easter! I love bunnies. They are almost as much fun to chase as squirrels.
We have to get new sod here too, but mom doesn't know how to do that, so instead we are redoing a flower bed. I need new flowers to trample, last year's ones are too flat for me to step on.
Mom found her sandals in the back of the closet and she is wearing them. Guess I didn't see them way back there or I would have chewed them up.
85 yesterday, and hotter today! That is wading pool weather!
Still snow here! Lots of it.
